Combined
ADHD & ASD Assesment
We offer a combined ADHD and ASD assessment service, which is a comprehensive evaluation process designed to accurately diagnose either or both conditions in an individual. This type of assessment is particularly important because ADHD and ASD can have overlapping symptoms, but they are distinct conditions with different treatment and support strategies. Typically, where people would like us to assess for both ADHD and ASD, we conduct over three sessions, each lasting 2-3 hours, with one in-person and two online meetings. These sessions involve collaboration between 2 psychologists, and a Speech and Language Therapist to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated assessment experience.

Our approach extends beyond just evaluating ADHD symptoms; since 2018, we've emphasised a holistic view, considering the entire spectrum of an individual's life and experiences. This comprehensive perspective allows us to distinguish ADHD from other similar conditions and focus on nurturing each person's overall growth and fulfilment.
What makes us different
Assessment process
We start with a detailed Intake and History. The assessment begins with a thorough intake process, where the individual's developmental history, symptoms, and behaviours are discussed. This often includes gathering information from various sources, such as family members, teachers, or previous medical records.
Professionals will observe the individual's behaviour in different settings. For children, this might include observing play and interaction with peers. For adults, it might involve discussing social and occupational functioning. Various standardised tests and questionnaires are used to assess symptoms related to both ADHD and ASD. These tests evaluate attention span, impulsivity, social communication skills, repetitive behaviours, and other relevant aspects. We carry out cognitive testing, which can help differentiate between ADHD and ASD, as these conditions may affect cognitive functions differently. Psychological assessments also help in understanding the individual's emotional and mental health profile. We also conduct interviews with the individual and, if applicable, with their family members or caregivers. Adults may be asked to self-report their experiences and challenges.
These assessments often involve a team of professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, and possibly educational specialists, to cover all aspects of the conditions. The aim is to distinguish between ADHD, ASD, and other possible conditions (differential diagnosis). Since symptoms like social challenges, focus issues, and repetitive behaviours can be present in both ADHD and ASD, the assessment carefully considers the root causes and manifestations of these symptoms.
After the evaluation, a detailed report is provided, outlining the findings, diagnoses, and recommendations. This is followed by a feedback session to discuss the results and next steps. The assessment concludes with recommendations for treatment, interventions, and supports tailored to the individual's specific needs, considering both ADHD and ASD characteristics if both are diagnosed.
The goal of a combined ADHD and ASD assessment is to provide a clear, accurate diagnosis (or diagnoses) and to pave the way for effective, personalised treatment and support strategies.
The assessment process for either is comprehensive and can be draining as we attempt to encapsulate a lifetime of experiences into possibly just a few diagnoses. Therefore, it is important to consider scheduling a less demanding week to manage the fatigue that might ensue.
